Hi Guys...I'm a newbee here and have been reading various things that interest me over the past few weeks. First an intro, I live in Kansas, please no todo jokes OK, I fish mainly for everything, here in the lakes.
I have in the past fished out of an old leaky Lowe deck boat. I have just recently moved up to an 07 Lund 2025. It has a 250 Yamaha on it with an 8 kicker. Since I have never owned a Yahama before and I have seen some on this site that do. Could you help me out with some pointers on the care of this engine. Should I have it checked out at a dealer that services them before too much operation. It has only 200 hours on it and was winterized last year but has been storage for a year.
I know that I am way over my head right now but want to learn as much as I can about the operation of this huge engine.
So any help would sure be appreciated.

Thanks...Tom

You have a great rig there and those two motors are mostly bullet proof. I have the same rig with a 225 Yamaha. No problems with either motor. All we ever do is have them both winterized by the dealer after our last trip toward the end of November.

I winterized my 2008 Yamaha last year. It was a snap. Flushed with fresh water through hose attachment for 15 minutes. Sprayed some fogging oil in the intake while running with muffs. Sprayed fogging oil in the cylinders through spark plug hole. Changed oil and filter (a little messy I'll admit). Changed lower unit oil. Inspected & greased prop shaft. This spring it fired up in about 1.5 seconds, like I had just started it an hour ago. Huge smile on my face after that! Used to take me 5-10 minutes to wake up my old 'Rude.

I was surprised at how quiet it was running, even out of the water. My old Evinrude probably scared schoolagers 3 blocks from my house.

Make sure there is a 10 micron fuel filter inline on that boat. Poor fuel is 90% of the service on the Yamaha. Stabilize the fuel all the time and run Yamaha Ring Free in the fuel as well. Normal maintenance will keep you on the water. Congrats on the new rig, very nice set up!

Hey Guys...thanks for the replies, they have been helpful.. I am going up to South Dakota this Sunday to pick up my new Lund. I am excited to the max, sure you have been there. Will fish the Missouri one day and return to Kansas. I intend to pick up some of thoes 10 micro filters while at the
Lund dealer there in Chamberlain, along with some ring free if he has it. I want to be able to care for this engine properly.

Good fishing to E1 and I will be around. This is a great site and the people are swell.

Thanks...Tom....
