I have done a search and read many posts on WC, but I still have a few questions. I have a Lund 1800 Fisherman with the pro track system on it. I want to buy a snap on travel cover for it and since it is a 200 mile drive to get one custom made and fitted I am probably going to buy a Lund cover. Is this a good quality cover and does it shrink to the point of being hard to put on when not in use. I have towed it with the storage cover on it and it rubs on the paint and is wearing on the seat backs. I have actually stopped towing the boat with a cover, but I am going to be towing it around 1,600 miles on a Canadian trip this fall. I would like some comments on the newer snap on Lund covers as I realize there were some problems with them in the past. You folks have always been a great help to me when I have had a question. Thanks in advance.

Dacotah Eye,

I am not sure where you are located but I just had a custom made for my 1800 Pro V at Len and Tony's in Sioux Falls. So far it has been really nice and I trailered to ND and back without any problems.

I am trying to stay away from pulling my boat to Sioux Falls. I have a Lund dealer here in Aberdeen that I have been talking to about a Lund cover which is about $100 higher than one made at Len and Topny's. The local guy that makes boat covers here in Aberdeen won't make a snap on cover. I have heard that the Lund covers are great and I have heard that there are some problems with them. Maybe I'll have to break down and travel to SF. Thanks for the reply.

I have a Lund snap cover and I love it. It is made of very heavy duty canvas. The only thing I wish was that it would cover the bow, some water gets in boat because it doesnt go all the way over the bow. I have thought about having a custom piece made just to cover the bow and trolling motor. Also make sure to keep snaps lubricated, I take a candle and just rub inside female snap that is fastened to the cover.

I bought my 2025 from Pierre Sports and they have a guy in Pierre that makes travel covers. Our snap cover fits like a glove and I no longer worry about trailering the boat with the cover on. The boat is also easier to pull with the cover on, as there is less wind resistance. The cover is made with top gun material and I'm not sure if the Lund cover is of equal quality.

I've got a Lund snap cover for my Rebel XL. Fits great! My only complaint is that it has two poles in the middle with vents. The vents and pole idea are great, but the poles are adjustable. If they are not the right height it doesn't fit right. This fall I'll get it all adjusted properly and then mark it with a sharpie. Problem should then be solved. I wouldn't hesitate on getting a Lund cover.

I have the Lund cover for my 1660 Classic. Recently drove 11 hrs home from a Canadian trip in the pouring rain. We drove through at least 10 severe thunderstorms as we seemed to be following a descending front from Canada. In any case, I was amazed that my cover withstood such heavy wind and rain for such a long time. Bottom line, an excellent cover and would recommend to anyone. Fits excellent and the snap system makes for a quick and easy installation.

Dakota, I've got a Pro V with the factory snap cover, I've really like the snap cover. No problems with it, I cover it for travel all the time. I purchased a snap replacement tool, but haven't needed it yet. Every snap still works.

Mines a single console, and I believe the windshield models put a bit more stress on the cover when trailering, but there's less prep work with the full windsheilds, just cover snap and go. With a console, I remove bubble, and electronics, and cover the electronics gimbal mounts so the don't poke a hole in the cover - then cover and go.

If you have a trip to Fargo planned, I can provide the name of a custom cover maker. With advance planning, they can get it done, start to finish in a single day. I'm not sure if they have a pattern for your boat. The custom covers typically offer a bit more choice on material used.

But heh, if you had to leave it in Fargo, then I'd just have to trailer it to ya and we'd go fishing before I came back home!

I think I will order the Lund cover tomorrow since I haven't read any complaints about them. It would be the same distance for me to go to Fargo as it would to Sioux Falls to have a custom cover made and I have a great Lund dealer here. I haven't read about any problems with the fit of the Lund covers either. Burr, ya don't have to trailer my boat to get in some fishing. just show up. I just got back from two weeks of fishing at Mobridge and appparantly I need a couple of lessons anyway.

We've got a terminal in Aberdeen, I might just have to make a business trip.

When I ordered my Lund I asked the dealer about the cover and he advised me to get one custom made. I think that says a lot :)
It will be more expensive to have it custom made but he said I`ll be better off plus it will cover the whole boat and not leave the bow out like the Lund does.

The cover I have that came with the boat is attached to the splash rails with stretch cords. That has also rubbed the seat backs nothing on the painted areas. that said I asked my wife to make me seat covers out of thick beach towels.folded in half and sewed down the sides they work well so far. One proplem I should have picked out the color of beach towel.

I have a custom snap cover for my 2025, it is amazing! No water inside the boat and a "snap" to put on. It travels with no difficulty.

Actually it would be $230 cheaper to have a cover custom built if I were to pay full price for the Lund cover. I don't really have the time to pull my boat 200 miles each way to get a custom cover fitted. My brother had one custom made where I would be taking mine and I noticed that he was buying snap extenders when I fished with him a couple of weeks ago because his cover is too tight.

Yup, custom covers should be 100-300 less than the Lund types. I wanted the dealer installation of snaps to the pro-trak system, becuase I knew they would use the correct hardware. I'm sure a custom cover would have been pretty good though and the fit maybe a tad better. Most of the ones I have seen though require the fiberglass slats to prop them up. The poles with the Lund cover are nicer. Also the vents are a real plus if it sits in the sun with some moisture in the carpet, no musty smell!

I had a factory snap cover on a prov 18, it was great most of the time, not so great when it was cold! very tough to stretch and snap, I am talking mid october to mid november here in minnesota, also be prepared with a snap replacemen t kit, I did lose a few, once again in cold weather.

Thanks for the heads up. The local tarp shop here has a tool that fits over the head of the snap to make it easier to lever the snaps into place. I plan to buy this tool and a snap replacement kit. Any problem with the snaps rusting????

no rusting, just pulling away from the canvas. I now have a 2010 pro guide, I had a custom cover from fergus falls area make it, it is a pain to put on, but when you travel the nw angle road of gravel to lake of the woods, believe me you need it. I only use it once a year. How many times a year do you see covers flapping and people pulled over re tightening etc, I hate covers but some times they are a necessary evil.

Got the Lund cover for my 1825 Pro Guide. Love it, I have towed 8 hours one way this year with it. And after floods and storms it was still just at tight as it was when I left. I think we have made 7 trips this year over 3 hours Most over 5 hours and the cover is as tight as it was when we left.
I will buy this cover again if it ever needs replacing.
Heres a shot of the cover after 6 hours in a storm.

I've got the Lund OEM snap on cover for my 1900 Pro V SE and I LOVE it.

Easy on/off (it can get tough in real cold weather, but you want it tight), great protection, and it doesn't chaffe the side of the boat like the standard canvas tarps with a tie down system do.

I made a few mods to mine though -

1. Added three support poles down the center that keep it tight when travelling and keep the rain from pooling when it's sitting.

2. Added two vents to the tarp to circulate air - they really help to dry things out after a day of fishing, especially if you're towing. They also help to balance air pressure and keep the tarp from flapping.

3. Added a bunch of backing material, the name of which escapes me right now, at all the high wear areas, especially around the consoles.

Here's a few pics of my tarp setup.

Dave, where in the fergus area did you get your cover from? Im within 30 mi of there.

I would like to get one made for my 1800 fisherman. Im tired of my other tarp maring the sides during travel!! I only use it now if I absolutely have to.
