Has anyone that watched the lowrance video on side imagery wonderded about the location of the transducer? If it has to be centered on you boat I would think it'd create problems by coming in contact with the outboard. If you watch the video you'll see in his boat setup he has that platform I guess you could say that creates seperation from the boat. Thus allowing room for this transducer. I'd just like to see somone elses opinion on this. It's been bothering me considering I'm chomping at the bit waiting for this to come out and would hate to find a dilema right away.

why do you think it needs to be mounted on the keel centerline? Do they say this somewhere? I can't possibly imagine why they would say such a thing.

Thats how it is shown mounted in the video. It also would make sense in order to get a true reading for the side imaging.

Like any sonar, anything you see on the graph is in relation to your transducer, not to the boat. Put it on your keel line, and you won't have to do the mental math of a 2' offset. But you'll also have problems with turbulence, debris, etc. There's no need to put a transducer in that location. Perhaps since it is an addon, they are saying to put it there so it is below and won't be blocked by the normal transducer?

Hey I'm just say'n. In the latest video for s.s. this is how it showed it being mounted on the guys boat. After watching this it made me start to wonder. I agree I feel this would'nt make sense, but you never know.

hey thembonez...i saw another video there today about mounting in various places on the boat...even up front on the trolling motor.

wHEN YOU WATCH THIS VIDEO ON YOU TUBE. THE TRANSDUCER IS MOUNTED UNDER THE JACKPLATE

looks like it aint right in the center either

yeah it looks like there are going to be a few issues with mounting this. I think Aluminum boats are going to have the greatest difficulty and if it is in the center, will your transom saver clear?

thank you!, I was more worried bout the lower unit itself coming in contact. Also mounting it in the normal transducer location would decrease your angle of coverage to one side. In the video they mounted it on a boat with a jack plate so it could be located "keel" center. Another worry with the side angle cone most of us would have to trim the motor up to clear the signal of the transducer so it dont bounce off the lower unit and not give reading...?.... These are speculation from what I can gather from video thats been posted.

what do you mean by 'decrease the angle of coverage to one side'? I don't know, i just don't get it. Humminbird's works just fine in a normal location. I have one, and that's where it is located. My kicker on the other side doesn't even block it. Side finding beams are extremely narrow. you only need a couple inches of clearance. If the lowrance beams were wider than humminbirds to the point that the ducer would need mounted at the keel, it just wouldn't work very well. The thin slices are what gives you detail. I just think you're overcomplicating this. The technology has been out there and in use for years, there's nothing groundbreaking here. you'll only notice the offset if your ranges are set for less than 20 feet or so. If your ranges are that narrow, you're defeating the purpose of sidefinding.

I guess what Im asking is what is different about lowrance's unit that makes it different than humminbird's with regards to transducer location?

The transducer mount needs a clear shot at both sides mine is off center but I need to have the motor trimmed up a bit to get side image.
