Thought I had a new boat bought last week that was coming with a Lowrance 520c and I was going to network my existing 522c to it on the bow. Long story short that boat deal fell thru. The good news is I found another boat, this one does not have any electronics on it. So the questions are: 1) should I mount my relatively new 522c on the console, if so what would be a good companion Lowrance unit for the bow? 2) Or should I put the 522c on the bow, if so what would be a good companion unit for the console?

Unless you are able to find a remaining LMS / LCX unit on closeout like the 520 or 522 (they were discontinued last fall and most places sold out of them long ago), you are looking at an HDS unit if you go with a new Lowrance unit. The HDS units will network with your 522 just the same as a 520 or 522 would network with it.
Regarding where you put the new unit and where you put your 522, I would put the new unit in whichever location you use the most and fish from the most. For me that would be at the console but it really depends on how YOU would use the units.
Thanks Hondo, I think I'll likely go HDS on the console and my existing 522c on the bow, like you suggest and try the network route. Does the HDS5 have roughly the same screen size as the 522c?
Both have a 5 inch screen.
