Humminbird 917C

Just bought a 917C, got a stupid deal on it so I said what the hey.

Question, I noticed one of the pages shows a side imaging layout, what type of transducer would I have to buy to get this to work or will it not work on this unit????

At this point in time, I'm not sure you can update it to add the SI. It would require the software and the SI ducer. The availability of the software upgrade is the real issue.

For now, I think not?

Worth trying, as I said I got a stupid deal on it from Cabelas and it is a great unit so I wont complain. Hows Fargo treating you BWE? Cat fishin good, should be interesting to see how that Cats Incredible works out, here it is taking 4 ounces just to barely hold in the river up here. Thanks again for the help!!!!

My guess...is at some point in time..down the line...an update may be available for certain units..than you will need the SI ducer. So no matter what, your on a good deal.

Me...same-same, fishing is on a upswing and for me just gets more fun from now on.

If'n your fish'n the CI event in GF..I would be chasing some Kirmit's down. ;)

You will not be able to update the 917 to Side Imaging. The screen you are probally talking about is with a Quadra Beam transducer.

The 788 C and Ci...that could feasibly be updated to the SI...correct?

If you didn't purchase a SI unit out of the box, there is NO way to upgrade the unit to SI later. The hardware is different.

Understood.... one would need the side imaging transducer, but they 788 C with the appropriate SI software update, is it then expandable to the same capability's of the 798 C...that was my question for our Hummer Pro Joby.

You can not update the 788C or the 788CI due to hardware in the unit. For you to have a Side Imaging unit you will have to purchase it with side Imaging.

Example:

798C SI Combo
997C SI Combo
1197C SI Combo

Thanks Joby..that's the clarification and confirmation I needed.

I was told one may in the future be able to update certain models, such as the 788 C, with the the software download and the purchase of the SI ducer.
