I see alot of guys are painting their SS props black as a theft deterrent which is probably a good idea so I was wondering what type of paint/prep are the y using? Powder coating? thanks

But, if you must paint stainless, before you sand it rough and hit it with an acid etch primer just try this:
Clean the prop with Dawn dish detergent to get off any polish or wax. Then clean the outside with lacquer thinner on a rag. Then spray with an automotive flat black primer from a spray can- using 3 thin coats waiting a few minutes until the primer "flashes"- or turns from shiny as sprayed to dull. Many outboard racers use this for the entire lower below the cav plate to cover up modifications and caviytation burn. Aas for the brand, I like Rust-o-Leum.
