What bait did the sauger prefer this last weekend jigs or cranks? The weekend before at a smaller tournament 7 out of the top 10 teams were trolling cranks or pulling floaters. Also where were most of the fish caught, above or below Spring Valley? I like to get over to the river later this week. But for that to happen I would have to play hooky and what kind of example would that set for my son. Oh I feel a bad case of something coming on.

The top three teams jigged. First and second used 3/8th ounce jigs, blue, orange, chartreuse, pink and white. First place used 6/2 Fireline. Third place jigged #5 and #7 Jigging Rapalas and 1 ounce Nilsmaster spoons. Fourth place trolled leadcore and #5 Rapalas.

Most three-way trollers said the trolling bite died.

Fish came from Starved Rock, Peru flats, the clam beds and Hennepin. Though big fish came from all those spots in prefishing, most came downstream in the tournament.

The MWC has its own website with results and comments from the fishermen: www.masterswalleyecircuit.com
