I've been out for a while- they put the pinch on me at work, but it is good to be back.
Do companies (BPS,Reeds) sell combos for trolling? I am interested in Diawa 27's are these ever matched with Roach's rods? Also, I see Roach has 7'10" rated for 8-12# line and he has an 8'6" rated for 10-20# line. I plan to run mono- heavy as I can get close to .14 dia.- and will be fishing mostly by myself- which would all of you recommend?
Thanks-- foreyes

I usually avoid combo deals. In my opinion, if the combo has a decent reel, the rod is usually not too good. Oh well. The set up I have been using for the past few years are the Diawa 27 reels with either the Bass Pro Shops P/K Planer Board Rod or the Gander Mountain GS Planer Board Rod. They are both 8'6" in length. The BPS rod is telescopic while the Gander rod is 2 piece. They are both decent rods and priced well. As far as line, I use Stren Extra Strength in 10lb test. Not sure of the diameter off the top of my head. Pick up a copy of Precision Trolling as well. Hope this helps.

Both of those roach rods that you mention are a great value for a trolling rod. Just right action for the application.
Then get a nice bait casting reel to go with them and you will be set.

My favorite combo's with the SG27LC reels have been with the Ugly Stik BWD 1101 8'3" Downrigger action rods. They cover all the bases for me from Salmon and Trout on the Great lakes to small walleye on inland lakes. We run leadcore, boards, and longlines with them for walleye. Don't let the light action of the Downrigger designation fool you, it still has plenty of backbone. It's just the top half of the rod with enough give to allow you to play the Big fish that makes this a perfect rod. It won't pull/tear out the hooks on your fish. (AND it's indestructable!)
