The rear livewell on my 2003 621 is blowing fuses. It has been doing this off and on this year. Usually I would just replace the fuse and it would be fine for a couple weeks. A couple weeks ago I replaced the pump on it as it would only work when I flipped it upside down. It worked great on Saturday and Sunday it blew everytime I inserted a new fuse. Any suggestions?

When my boat is plugged into the 4 bank charger and the radio is on it makes an load humming sound as well?

If you replaced your pump and you're still blowing fuses then its the wiring or switch. Check your wiring all the way from the battery through the switch and to the pump. Or just wedge a wire in place of the fuse and stand by with a fire extinguisher.

sounds to me like you have a loose wire or a frayed wire that is intermittently shorting out. Is anything else tired into the line for the livewell ?

I had the same problem once......my dealer recommended a bigger fuse. That worked for me. I don't remember the size, though. sorry.

Don't do this. A bigger fuse can cause a fire. You are blowing a fuse for a reason, you're pump is probably bad, or if your wires are laying in the bottom of the boat, a little water down there can short it as well.
Make sure they are cable tied up on the side.

Out of curiousity, what size fuses are you using? I have no idea what pumps Ranger uses, but the Mayfair/Johnson cartridge-type pumps are rated to use 5 amp fuses. If you can tell me what model pump you just replaced, we should be able to determine what the correct fuse is.

I don't know if you got an answer to this. I owned a 2003 520 with the exact same problem. There was a recall on the wiring harness that year. Despite getting the warranty replacement new harness, I still had problems. I changed both the pump and fuses many times and it still kept blowing. I never got a satisfactory answer from the dealer. I was told the pumps get clogged from crayfish, etc. I suspect the wiring harness was the underlying problem.

I ended up jury-rigging a pump directly to the battery. I put an aligator clip on the negative lead and simply clipped it to the battery terminal when I needed the pump. I found most times that one pump was good enough to run both wells except in the peak summer months, so it wasn't a major problem. Of course it was constantly on and not working on a variable timer, so you'd have to un-clip it to turn it off. That was one of the minor reasons I sold my rig and got a Lund.
