I want to upgrade the electronics on my boat and don't mind waiting a few months. I was wondering when this year's models will typically become year end models and go on sale. End of summer, or will I have to wait until spring?

I don't think you will see anything from Lowrance as they just came out with their new HDS units this year.

There are a lot of deals on the last generation Hummingbirds out there right now..587..597..787..797's..997...and...1197's.
I agree your likely not going to see any major discounts on the HD units or the new (8's) from Hummingbird this year.
More units will likely join the class of "Legacy Units" in the Lowrance and Eagle line, and some Monochrome Lowrance units will go "Legacy" as well, they should eventually be marked down for clearance.

Thanks, I was looking at the Humminbird 788s, which I believe are new this year.

We've got most of our combo units on sale right now, including the 788s. They are current units, not legacy products, so you won't find the deep discounts that go with discontinued or clearance items. Neither Lowrance or Humminbird has announced any new units in their lineups so there's no telling how long you'll have to wait for the next round of clearance pricing.
I did notice that Cabela's had the HDS5's on pretty strong sales on the website. If my memory serves me right they were a couple of hundred off of normal pricing.

I believe that Humminbird announced their new "800" line for 2010 at the ICAST show in Orlando. If I remember correctly they have planned a combo dual frequency model and a side scan model. It will have a 7" screen and be priced between the 798 and 997 current model.
Here is a link to a video from Humminbird at the ICAST

Yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing the new "800" model. I've been thinking about and saving for a 997 because I like the 8" screen better than the 5" screen on the 798.
With the 800 version having a 7" screen and being priced between the 997 and 798 ($1,500) I believe that will be the one I go for now. (gotta keep the wife happy too :whip:)
