I am planning a trip to Ft. Peck this spring or summer. Never been to the lake before and would appreciate any information to catch some of those big ol' Montana Walleye!

Walleyegator,
I fish peck nearly everyweekend. The way you fish really depends on the exact time of year, the weather, what the water level is doing and so on and so forth like everywhere else, but it seems more important at Peck. The fish are there or they are not, there is hardley anything in between at Peck. The same goes with size, they are usually under 14" or over 26", very little in between at least lately.
In the spring, the Dry Arm is a good bet up until about the middle of June and then the Main Lake seems to turn on. My preference tends to be to jig through May and then switch to Cranks, Spoons and Spinners. The last couple of years fish have been scattered, it is likely they will do the same this year. Do not put a line in the water until you see fish on your locator. Too much water to cover to do anything different. Depths are tough to predict, last year 20+ seemed to be a good rule. This year, I suspect it will be the same unless we have a very wet spring and the water raises dramatically.
Bottom line is to cover water and don't expect alot of fish, but the quality is exceptional. Last summer, I caught at least one fish over 6 lbs on every trip from May on. E-mail me as the time gets closer if you want some more info.

I appreciate the responses. We take a fishing trip every year, and this year we are considering Peck. I've heard there are some super size walleye up there, that's what we are after. I'm in Nebraska, about an hour from McConaughy, so catching fish isn't a problem, but the lure of 13+ pounders is too hard to resist! I've heard large blade spinners, large cranks, but If you don't know where the fish are it doesn't matter if you pull a budweiser can! So basically, when, where, what would help!!!

try ****_ Creek north of Jordan, still kind of remote camping. They do have a state camp ground there with potable water but no electric. If you are looking for a guide contact Kibler outfiting from sand springs, MT. If not either way from the mouth of #####- creek is great fishing off main points. Remember the fish may seem scattered but they all eat sometime. Good Luck
