DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS ON A GOOD BATTERY POWERED HOOK SHARPENER?

The best answer is - NONE.

Basically the problem is the shape of the hook. Virtually every battery powered hook sharpner - grinds a round point on the hook.

The problem is that this round hook is fragile, sharp, easy to bend over, and doesn't have cutting edges on the sides of the hook.

Rather than buying any of the battery powered hook sharpners that grind a round hook, spend $5 and buy your self a diamond pocket hone with a groove in one side for the hook, and a flat on the other side, for knives etc.

By using the goove in the hook sharpner, you can sharpen most hooks in a nice triangle three sided hook with cutting edges on all three sides, a strong sharp point that lasts a long time - with about 9 strokes of the stone.

By keeing the sharpner in your pocket - you can instantly access it - to touch up a hook that bounces off a rock or gets snagged, and you need to "refresh the point".

One of the biggest problems with a battery powered hook sharpner - is that a 5 second blast of the sharpner, can grind off 1/2 of the usable hook area.

I have been there, done it and am not going back.

take care

p.s.
If you have lots of hooks, jigs, or crank baits - with really bad hooks, -pitch the hooks, and or jigs, and take the hooks off the crank baits and replace them with a new really sharp hook.

Many of the jigs of a few years ago, or crank baits, came with some very poor hooks.

Rather than trying to point a bad hook - replace the hook with a high quality newly sharp hook.

I own a good set of "O"ring pliers and carry a supply of high quality hooks. I re-tie nightcrawler harnesses that become dull. I don't rely on my hook honing skills when it comes to catching walleyes!! If you are going to sharpen dull hooks with an electric hone, you can probably use about any out there. After you sharpen with the electric hone I would add some finishing touches with that diamond fine file mentioned in your other reply. Good Luck!!!
