View Full Version : Broken transducer mount?

Just went outside to charge the batteries on my boat and noticed the transducer was crooked on the mount. I looked a little closer and discovered the transducer broke off the mounting piece that has the hole for the bolt to go thru. The hole part was still intact.

Question: I J.B. welded the two parts together and they are now drying. Should I order a new transducer
or is it possible the glued parts will hold. Any other suggestions?

I don't think the J.B. Weld holding will be an issue at all. I've used it to fix the handle on a chest my wife tries to pack with as much stuff as she can into, and I have never had an issue with the J.B. Weld it works great.

My concern would be how did the transducer mount get broken? They don't usually just break on their own, and my thoughts are that it would take quite a blow to break one. Meaning that the 'ducer may have been knocked "loopy" or worse. May want to keep a close eye on it the next time on the water. A new transducer may be a neccessity and not an option.

walleyefreak,

You got me thinking. Before I went to the lake last time, I adjusted the transducer because instead of fish arcs I was getting long lines. My other fishfinder was showing arcs. It worked perfectly at the new position. However, could I have tightened the nut a little too tight. I really didn't notice anything while I was tightening the nut.

I bumped the dock and broke mine off the trolling motor. I used waterproof epoxy and it held for 4 yrs.

You might try PVC primer and cement. Test it on a small spot of the plastic and see if it melts. If it does you might be able to weld it back together with the PVC cement.
