The young guy in the back is about 8 months, and the "old man" in front is about 3-1/2.

I believe those are wire-haired griffons - correct? If so, I just got on a list to get a Grif pup this winter from a breeder here in the U.P. of Michigan. I've been having some trouble deciding between a male or female. Can you give me some insight?

Mine are Deutsch Drahthaars. Most would say similar dogs though. As far as male vs female goes I think it's all just personal preference. I've owned both, I like male dogs better. Don't even know that there is reasoning behind it. I could go into bigger, stronger blah, blah blah. They are hunting dogs, and that's what they are gonna do, male or female. To me, whether it's my imagination or not, I think the boys just seem to be more loyal and eager to please. Others will have that same comment about female dogs I'm sure. My advice would be to tell the breeder exactly what you are looking for in a dog. He should be willing to watch the litter over the 8 weeks and pick which dog will be best for you, male or female.
One thing that is easier about male dogs is the explanation to momma when I come home from hunting. Think about it. Which do you think is easier to answer? "Why does my princess have a scratch?" or "What happened to your dog?". One starts with "I'm really sorry" and the other goes more like "Ah, he's tough as nails" :-)
No matter which you get, enjoy your hunting machine! They are great dogs. Mine are equally enjoyable in the house as they are in the field. The little guy will get his first wild bird hunt in 3 days!

Wow wheels - they look just like Griffs - they had me fooled. I appreciate your comments -- sort of leaning to the male side too.

Will do - it will be around the 1st of the year though. I visited the breeder this past weekend and saw his/her parents. Great dogs - beautiful and well mannered - I am excited to have a new hunting companion!

Nice looking dogs!
The one inthe back could be a twin to my first dog, Briar.
I've switched to GSPs these days, here's "Halo" doing what pointing dogs do:

He was 15 in those pics, he made to late summer of 2008, hunted a lot of birds over that big fella.
Here he was at about 3:

I'm reading books on training -- very excited. Wish I had him this fall - the grouse population up here in U.P. is really good this year. Been shooting birds even without a dog!
