do many of you guys use down riggers for walleye ?
what about a planer board mass and side planers as compared to inline planers ?

are these two methods old school or still being widely used ?

I still see a ton of boats running 'big boards' on Lake Erie. In my opinion, if you have four or more fishermen on the boat, it's the way to go. With three or less guys, the inline boards are the ticket.

In SD downriggers are becoming very popular on sections of the Missouri River reservoirs when fishing over deep trees or when the wind is blowing. Leadcore is also often used but the when the wind kicks up it is difficult to hold a steady speed and precise lure depth. I added downriggers two years ago and they have been a definite plus in my arsenal.

While working as a 1st mate on a charter boat we ran downriggers. The big boards produced the most fish, then the larger size dipeys then downriggers.
If it was up to me I wouldn't buy downriggers, spend the money on better lure slection etc.
