510c and thermocline

Just curious, I was told a way to find the thermocline was to turn the sensitivity all the way up on my sonar unit and the thermocline will/may show up as a band running across the screen.

Will this usually work?
And will it work with a X510C unit?

I have two LCX27C units, but would rather not change settings on them and think it'd be easier on the 510.

It will usually work ---- especially if the lake has a thermocline. Not all lakes develop thermoclines --- smaller lakes, shallower lakes, and windswept lakes frequently do not develop thermoclines.
