My friend has a Garmin (I won't know the number of the unit until tomorrow) and we want to tranfer his icons and waypoints to his LCX-27c....What chips do I need to completely do this for him. I have a blank MMC card. What else is needed because I know he has the cartography chip? Or, is there a newer way to do this? Appreciate any help. Thanks, Paul

I transfered my waypoints from Garmin to Lowrance by using the NMEA 0183 wiring. Just fasten the NMEA out on the garmin to the NMEA in wire on the lowrance and hit the transfer button.

Do you connect all the wiring? Are the wires you are talking about orange yellow blue, etc... ? What is the in wire?
Thanks Paul

In your lowrance manual go to page 43 / 143. This will explain the wires that you will use. Page 43 is the wiring diagram and page 143 is the configuration that has to be set on the x27. If you are not fimilar with serial communication it might take you a few times to get the configuration right for the devices to communicate. Just remember that the settings on both devices has to be the same for the devices to communicate. You will need your garmin manual to see which wires are the transmit, recieve, and ground. One more thing transmit on device 1 goes to recieve on device 2, recieve on device 1 goes to transmit on device 2, the ground from device 1 connects to ground on device 2. If you don't want to go threw this trouble you can use a free software to convert the data. http://www.easygps.com/. Good luck

DJK is exactly right. you need to wire the NMEA like that or us the Software on your computer. When I did mine, I had no computer hook up for the garmin, so I used the NMEA network.
