I would always worry about inerfearance with a spliced cable.

Call Humminbirds customer service and have them help you out.

Try splicing it, what have you got to loose? No, I don`t think I would splice it on second thought. A short in the cable or wrong resistance ohms could damage the head unit.

You might find a transducer on the cheap off Ebay.

I`d try Humminbird first though and see what they say.

I have spliced a few on Lowrance units. It is tricky but can be done, they do not adivse doing it but it did work for me.
Just trim back the outside insulation to expose the shield being careful not to cut the shielding. You need to take at least two inches off of each end of the cable.

Unweave the shield with a pointed device (toothpick would do) back to the outside insulation.
Trim off the inside insulation over the center concuctor to expose about an inch of the center wire.

Slip correct size shrink wrap tubing over one end of the outside of the cable to be used later, make sure this piece is at least 4 inches long.
Slip appropriate size of shrink wrap tubing over the center conductor, enough to cover the splice.

Splice the center conductor and solder it. Coat it withliquid electrical tape and allow to dry. Slip the smaller shrink wrap over this solder joint and shrink it.

Next step is to solder the shielding together, twist each of piece of shielding to make a wire strand and then twist them together and solder. You need to keep this connection small/thin so you can get the final shrink wrap over them. Coat this area with liquid electrical tape and then slip the outside shrink wrap over the entire connection and allow to dry then shrink the outside cable.

This should priovide a waterproof and mechanically strong connection.
