Bowmount trolling motors don't really fit my fishing needs. If I didn't have the EM 80 on my Fishunter 190, I would have another transom mount. I like the EM most of the time. There are times when it's pretty rough that the motor pops out of the water more than I would like. For the most part though, it works really well. I will say, if you're ever in shallow water, you can't trim your engine up and troll through the channels (would have been nice in minocqua to trim up on some of the shallower channels we went through... It is nice to get to your spot, trim the engine all the way down, and troll

I have an EM. My next boat will have both. I use the EM all the time for pulling crawlers with the wind, but when you need to troll into the wind or along a break it's almost impossible. A terrova with autopilot is nice for that.

why does the terrova troll better into the wind, than the EM?

An EM (engine mount) instead of a kicker? I would guess you need both. One to push and one to steer.

Since the EM mounts to the main engine you steer with your steering wheel from the helm. It does the pushing though.

It's a lot easier to control your boat from the front than the rear. Especially at slow speeds.

my kicker would not start one day on lk Erie and I used my 101 maximum ,(with the waves) a little windy out, and had a hard time, a friend uses a transum mount 24 volt(not a em) and works great, runs out of batt, after about 3,4 hrs, only uses his gas a couple of times a year, this is why I thought a EM would be good?but this site seems to have alot of great ideas, thanks

The same reason it's easier to paddle a conoe from the front on a windy day, compared to paddling from the back.

Ever try it? ;)

Exactly. Plus get a trolling motor with auto-pilot and you don't have to worry about fighting the wind, the motor does that automatically for you.
