Cannon is plugging so-called positive ion technology with the use of some of their downriggers. The metal cable is charged to supposedly attract fish. Sounds a bit fishy to me, like snake oil etc. Has anybody actually tested this out for themselves to see if it makes a difference (other than to Cannon's profit)?

There are a number of other companies besides Cannon that make the "black boxes" for positive ion control. I've even seen a few homemade ones. Although I've never used them, there is a small following of dedicated users in the salmon/trout fishery. I've also read a number of articles in several leading publications on their use. I do know that on a related topic, there are days that wire line fished at the same depth as mono or super braids will out produce them hands down....electrical charge, vibration, ???? They wouldn't be rated very high on my list of neccesary fishing "have to own" items but others might give then a higher priority.

You'll find quite a bit about this in the archives. We spend quite a bit of time on the Great Lakes chasing salmon/trout. We have Cannon's both with and without the positive ion control. Over the course of the past 3-4 years, we've seen no difference whatsover in the catch rates off the different types.
