I have a 1998 Lund Pro Sport which has two livewells in the back of the boat, bench seat across the back of the boat with a livewell on each side of the boat. Each livewell drains out the bottom to a commom exit out the back of the boat. To fill the livewells you put a piece of pvc pipe vertically into the drain hole, when the water reaches the top of the tube the livewell is full and any additional water will drain out through the tube. When using the main motor there must be enough water pressure to back flow up the drain hole and increase the water level, on long runs it can reach the top. The fit of the pvc into the drain tube must be getting a little loose because recntly I filled the livewell and when underway the tube worked its way out and then when we stopped the livewell totally drained.

I am thinking of putting a plug in the drain hole while using the boat (thus stopping the backflow of water into the livewell) and cutting an overflow into the livewell. Since the livewells are in the back of the boat I could just cut a hole in the back of the livewells and let them drain into the slashwell and then the water could drain out the holes in the spashwell, I would use a through hull fitting to make the hole look finished.

Or I could cut a hole in the side of the livewell and another in the side of the boat and using a through hull fitting in each hole connect them with a hose.

Before I started cutting holes I thought I might get some input on this. Is this a good idea and which way would be better to drain the water, into the splashwell and the out the back of the boat or directly out of the boat?
