I am planning on going down and trying some Salmon/Trout fishing on Lake Mich. by Milwaukee on Labor Day weekend. I am wondering how many of you guys just stick with normal techniques such as leadcore, snap weights, and dipseys to accomplish this. Do I really need downriggers to do this. Any other tips or advice would be great.

Thanks,

I walleye and salmon fish but I salmon fish on lake ontario. You can use your standard leadcore however you need ALOT of backing for big kings, I use a 57 size reel, if you run the core all the way out knot to the water to get around 50 deep and a 20 plus king hits you better have at least an additional 600 ft of line of backing on the reel.

I don't know if fleas are a problem like on lake O but everyone runs wire divers to prevent flea build up if the fleas are bad forget about running braid you won't even be able to reel your lines in.

Borrow a set if you know someone that will let you take them, you don't NEED riggers but boy do they help expecially if it's a rigger bite kind of day.
