I have an 18' Lund Alaskan that I am looking to outfit with both bow, and transom mount electrics. I am unsure as to what size, pound thrust, is best suited in each case. I also am unsure if i need to go to a 12V or 24V system. Would two 12V motors in the 45lb thrust range be enough, I know it is less expensive than some of the alternatives. Also, would appreciate any suggestions on specific brands and models.
Thanks,
Hodge
What ever you do stay away from the motorguide laser motors. They are junk. See above posts on motorguide trolling motors. I'am on hold now with the factory trying to trade it off for a cable steer motor. I think you are in the ballpark with the two 45lbs motors off 2 12volt batteries. Just remember the old saying "there is no substitute for cubic inches" I guess we can change that to pounds of thrust. Just finished with the rep and they are going to change it for a cable steer! I must say that the service I receive from Motorguide has been very good! Just stay away from the lazer motors. Good luck with whatever you buy.
