Looking for some Ranger owners who have a hydraulic jack plate on their boat who may be able to lend me some knowledge. My '08 620 has a jack plate that settles when left overnight on the trailer. It sounds to me like the seals on the cylinder are leaking by. Is this normal? Would general trailering without a transom saver (use the ETEC bracket) cause this? It doesn't appear to affect performance on the water. I figure I'll get it to a dealer after the season, just wondering if I need to take it sooner than later. Thanks for the help.

chris,
I run a Bob's 8" hydraulic jack plate on a 2008 621 w/ Yamaha F250 and have never had the jack plate "settle" or move from it's setting until I change it. I think you are right on with the seal leaking.

Just wondering if you have had to add any hydraulic fluid to the tank. I have not had to add any fluid at all.

I've got the same plate that you do. I've not had to add any fluid, nor have I seen any leaks, which is what leads me to believe its the seal on the cylinder piston blowing by. I'll give the dealership a shout and see if its something I need to get checked right away or if I can wait till December. Thanks

I have a Bobs 6" on mine and never a settling problem. Try calling Bobs and maybe he'll give you some info.

It`s not the seal it`s the valve thats letting the oil leak by. Could be a small chunk of dirt or steel holding it open. Wiredog
