I have the lcx27c and am having problems finding depth in water over 20'. The unit also seems to have trouble finding depth when I'm on the run. I have verified that my transducer is in the correct position. I have verified that my cable is not cut or frayed per the lowrance site. I've read the posts that the software upgrade can fix shallow depth issues and I've read the posts about the guys that have changed out their ducers.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Do the software upgrade? Will that solve the issue or do I need to change out the ducer? Or something else? This is driving me crazy!

Thanks:boohoo:

check your auto depth and your sensitivity i just got the same unit and im tinkering with it myself im i took my off auto sensitivty and turn it up in deep and turn it down in shallow....

I believe the latest software update is july 29 09'. I recently installed it in a friend's lcx27c. Definately install the update. Like walleyedude said check your auto or manual depth settings, sensitivity and ping speed. Could be a bad t-ducer too???????

I have a lcx27c and had issues this spring with it not finding bottom and freezing up on me. I first thought it was a bad ducer and installed a new one with no change. I did a software update and has been working great since. Before you try the update check your ping speed it seems to work the best at 100% to get a fast return and adjust your angle of the transducer. A friend of mine was having issues when up on plane and he adjusted it down 2-3 clicks and seemed to work better. Good Luck!

Same problems, I'll try the latest update thanks.
Also if the setting is for shallow water, how deep will the unit still read?

This might be my problem as one unit is set for shallow water.

In shallow water mode, with the sensitivity up, I was reading good down to 120' (max depth on a MN lake). (LCX-27c)

Good info here. I had the same thing happen to me. In 30'+ with the sensitivity at 100 I could barely get a bottom reading. For me it ended up being the transducer.

Do the "free" fixes first such as the software updates and setting changes. Then if all else fails, go the ducer route. Better yet if you can try a friends ducer to make sure thats the problem.

(After you have fixed the sonar problem, if you dont get a good reading while on plane you may need to lower your transducer a bit)

usually not getting a good read while on the move is caused by transducer angle, I would try adjusting transducer angler first

Is the new update the same update as the old "beta" version that was released last year?

No, it is a new version from about a month ago
