Just bougtht a 09 Reata 1850 with a Opti 150. Going to put a HDS7 up front and a HDS5 at the dash. I will be running my 07 Navionics North chip in one and my 08 Lakemaster Minnesota or 09 Lakemaster LOW/Rainy in the other. I will be fishing Iowa, Minnesota, Ontario. Any reason to spend the money to get the Insight mapping or should I get the base mapping?

Based on where you fish and the map cards that you already have, I don't think you'd want to spend the extra money on the Insight mapping --- your map cards are going to be better maps for those areas imo.

Another update that people need to be aware of regarding these Insight Maps. The new vesion that is now being released (Version 3.0) no longer has contour lines, just depth sounding depths listed. At first it bothered me, but the more I thought about it, the maps that come with the older HDS units were not very accurate anyway. So in the end, I either use the map cards or make my own. Not really sure why Lowrance did this, but people need to be aware of this.
I got the insight maps on my unit. The 3d contor is nice until you zoom in and it goes away. The maps of lakes with no contor map has better shoreline detail than the base maps i have used in the past. If I was to purchase again I would pass on the insight maps and buy a card.

I agree with RAW. The Insight map is great until you zoom in to get a closer look and then the shaded map goes away and leaves you with just the contour map so the shaded map doesn't do you much good. Getting the chips for the area you fish makes more sense than the additional cost of the Insight option. The chips will be more accurate also.
