I am running an F225 Yamaha on a Alumacraft trophy 200 (20ft) aluminum boat,I am running an older 14x21 pitch stilleto stainless on it now,I am turning between 5800 and 5900 rpms at 49.7 mph(gps).
I can buy a 14 1/4x 20 pitch yamaha SS for a decent price but was wondering what that might do to my performance.
I ran the 5800 to 5900 with me alone in the boat,30 gallons of fuel,3 deep cycle and a 101 lb Minnkota on the back.
Hoping someone can help me out here,do not want to spend the money and be disapointed, the prop i am looking at is pretty much a standard Yamaha prop, not the black ss but one up from there.
Thanks in advance

Here is a link to Alumacraft's performance report on a Trophy 205 w/ F225. This boat weighs about 150 lbs more than the Trophy 200 due to a slightly wider beam and about a 10" longer hull. I think the prop they used in the test is Yamaha's Pro Series. Note there were 2 people in the boat for the test.

Your running around 18% prop slip, which is not to good. Don't buy the yamaha prop either, go buy a 4 blade 19 pitch prop either the Powertech OFS4 or the Mercury Rev4 both will lower your prop slip and you'll get better holeshot, fuel economy, faster top end speed, overall better prop than what your running now.

I have thought about the 4 blade,I did try a Vortex 4 blade 20 pitch aluminum this year and did not like it,it popped me right out of the hole but my rpms were high and I did not get any speed out of it,since I do not know a whole lot about props can you tell me what the differences would be with these 4 blades?
Is it common to drop a couple of pitches on a 4 blade and why?
Thanks again,i appreciate the help.

The vortex 20 pitch is only a 14" diameter prop. The Powertech OFS4 19 is a 15.25" diameter has modriate cupping and rake, the REV4 is a 14 5/8" diameter has lots of cupping and rake very aggressive prop. If you put both up againest each other they run about the same rpms. As far as dropping pitch, you need to drop one pitch when going to a 4 blade, and another to get you rpms up to the 6000 mark.

propmann,
I notice a lot of larger diameter 3 blades on ebay for decent prices, would you recommend anything like a Merc mirage?
If so what pitch would i go with a lareg diameter 3 blade?
I will probably hold off for the 4 blade but I am trying to get by with a little less money.
thanks again
