I just bought a new Terrova, 80 LBS thrust, autopilot, 60"shaft, used it a couple of times. Does not seem like it has the same power as my 10 year old 55 LBS thrust Minnkota. For example on setting 5 it seems like it is on 2 or 3. When on 10 (full power) seems like it only about 50% power. Has anybody seen anything or heard anything about this. Thx for any input.

The units are only as good as your batteries. What's the status of your batteries?

Batteries excellent, 1.5 years old. Connections also clean and tight. Fully charged. Had same batteries with old motor, old motor seemed like it had more power.

Was your old 55PD a 24 volt system or a 12 volt system? I just want to be sure that you have 24 volts going to your new 80 pound Terrova. Test your wiring/plug with a volt meter to confirm that 24 volts are being delivered to the Terrova.

If for some reason the wiring is messed up and you only have 12 volts, the Terrova would act like you are descibing. If not, there may be a problem with the Terrova.

I have not heard of symptoms like you have descibed, keep us informed as to what you find.

Sounds like either your batts aren't providing 24volts or when you wired the plug end on your new terrova the wires are on the 12v position of 12v/24v wiring. Check you wiring starting at the batts, make sure your wired in series and not parallel. Pick up a $10-$20 multi-meter and check voltage at batts and at plug recepticle. This will tell you the story..

I just want to thank you guys for the excellent tips. I checked every thing you guys told me to check. Heres what I found: Apperantly when I hard wired my new connector, it was the 12 volt connector, not the 24 volt connector, only have 12 volts going to the motor. It was just a self inflicted problem, thanks for all the help.

Why do you think I suggested checking the voltages? :) Most of us have been there at one time.
