Just installed a new Lowrance LVR-250 VHF radio and would like to connect it to my Lowrance LCX15 GPS. I know this is an older unit but it works great has anyone had success doing this and if so a littel help would be greatly appreciated?
Thanks-Mike

In a strict sense you really aren't networking the two as with the Ethernet and NMEA-2000 formats.
I'm guessing what you are trying to do is provide the NMEA-0183 data stream to the input of the Lowrance Radio for use in the DSC connection for Digital Selective Calling. Supposedly what that does is provide Lat/Lon info when you make an emergency call.
There should be a few wires coming out the back of the Lowrance Sonar unit that are labeled as serial or NMEA 183 output. Check your manual for the color codes for the data and ground connections. Match that up with the wire harness that came with your radio. I don't think you need to get a special cable.
All of this only works when you transmit the emergency signal and there is someone listening with the correct receiver. Don't now how many of those receivers exist.
You most likely will need to set up your Sonar/GPS unit to output the appropriate NMEA 0183 data. Should be able to find that under the system setup menu.

It's really an option that you hope to never have to use.

I spent a little time at the Lowrance website to see just what the DSC cababilities of their radio is. There are some useful features depending upon which model you got.
The real key is how the software in your Sonar/GPS unit will handle the transmitted information. CAn't tell that without digging thru the manual. Maybe someone else has hands on experience with this.
Several of my friends have DSC equipped boats. it would be cool to have their position plotted on my GPS unit. Don't think my GPS can do that though.

Thanks again that is one of the main features that I thought would be a great benefit. I was able to find the proper baud rate and dicrections on system setup so I think I will give it try this weekend.
I will report back.
