Unbeknownst to me, I am required by Wisconsin law to have my battery posts covered or protected. I know I had to have the battery secured from shifting but this is news to me.

I have never had to worry about it before becayse I have always had my batteries in covered cases. However, the storage in my new boat will not allow my covers to fit becuase of a lack of clearance when the hatch closes.

The question is what other remedies do I have to protect both of the posts? I have the threaded terminals covered with Johhny Ray mounts but need to find something to protect my posts. I should have never threw out the original caps that came with the battery. It should be mentioned that all my connections are to the threaded stud and my posts are bare.

Any suggestions?

I posted this on another site and am confusing a lot of people who replied so I'll re-phrase the question:

Obviously I am confusing everyone including myself. This seems like such an easy question.

I do have two dual post marine batteries. Each battery has four posts. Two positive and two negative. Each set of posts has one standard round-type post and one threaded post. I use the threaded post for all my connections and it is already covered with an aftermarket product.

But that leaves the standard round post left uncovered. These post are about 1" tall and maybe 5/8" in diameter. These look exactly like what you would find on top of an automotive battery except there is no wiring going to it because all my wiring go to the other set of posts which are threaded.

I need to cover my unprotected and unused round posts. I hope that makes more sense.

Really simple -
Go over to any wall mart, k-mart, batteries or any where else that sells batteries, and pick up a few caps.
They install the batteries and throw them all away.

I have the same kinds of batteries on my camper.
Very handy, when you need to jump somebody. Much easier to jump from the top posts than the side posts.

Take care

I used the original cover, maybe you can pick some up from a battery store? I have seen red/black battery covers that will fit over both, I have those on my starting battery. Fleet/Farm or Farm/Fleet which ever is in your area. I don't know if you wrapped them with elec. tape would pass a DNR inspection??
