A Small boat is OK. Bring alot of jigs 3/8 oz or 1/2oz. Keep your jig vertical with your trolling motor. They also handline there especially if the water gets paper bag color with mud. This will occur with high wind or a storm. If you are only jigging I suggest that you try to stay in the clearest water you can find. Talk to fishing people at the docks via. Wyandotte,Eerie metro ramp etc...Don't forget a Canadian license if you venture accross river. Minnows, crawlers and soft plastics 2-4" seem to be a norm. The river is very snaggy in places,if you are losing jigs you are probably fishing it correctly. Keep your rod bent and your line wet!
GOOD LUCK!!

if you launch at erie metro park, after idling out the the channel, head up river anywhere from 300ft to up to the twin red/white stacks..you can't miss all the boats. some of your controlled drifts will result in mainly snags depending on where your drifting. this time of year don't be afraid to use 3/4oz jigs even in 8 ft of water. as the water warms you will end up wanting to as light as possible, but right now BANG the bottom! stay in control. your going to be looking for fish within 1 ft of the bottom (some graphs won't show em). a higher lift/drop when the water gets warmer, right now keep it low. IMHO
hope that helps
