View Full Version : Rainy River Open Water
Is anyone planning on fishing the Rainy the first week in April?
Will the river be open or would it be best to postpone the trip one week?
It might be the safest bet to postpone if for a year - with this late ice out.

Check with the folks on the river to verify status of the ice before leaving home - it is iffy at this time.

Check this site out. They usually give daily updates on the ice conditions and pretty honest reports from what I've experienced in the past. http://www.clementsonresort.com/report.html
I agree with the Clementson website. The info I have is this. There is a 8 to 10 mile stretch of open water by International Falls. The rest of the river is still iced over.

I just made my reservations for 9-12 April. Still praying!!! I just got off the phone with Clementson and they think it will be OK as long as there isn't any real cold spells. Supposed to be in the 40's all week , With wind. Reservations are getting hard to get. Good luck.

Looks like early next week will be good to go at Birchdale, that's when I plan on heading up. I won't be postponing for a year, I have a hard enough time waiting for this every year. Those who only have big boats may have to cancel, or find a small boat to use.
