I am looking for a small family owned resort or cabin to stay at this Sept. It has to be pet friendly, and have good fishing. I have my own boat so that is no problem. I'am Open to any subjections.
THANKS reddog

It's a big state.

Where are you coming from?

How big of water are you comfortable with?

What is your target species?

Do you want the "up North" feeling?

Do you need things for the kids and mom to do?

Coming from centeal Iowa. Last time I was in Minn, which was in June. We fish the US side of rainy lake and had good luck. We stayed at birch point resort just E of Ranier. We used my boat on rainy with no problems. This trip will just be my wife, dog and I. My wife doesn't fish but the dog loves to. I am just looking for something different that is pet friendly.

Try this link, good info. Beautiful area. I stayed at Carlsons Harmony Beach a couple years ago. Nothing fancy but clean and very friendly people. Pet friendly also.http://www.kabetogama.com/arearesorts.htm

Resort on Pimushe Lake. Look it up and give them a call. I think you would be very pleasantly suprised. Not sure about dogs but cant imagine they wouldn't. I stayed there once but never dropped the boat because grouse hunting was so good and more fun to me.

Well as you know Minnesota has lots of options. Big water includes Lake Of The Woods, Rainy, Leech, Mille Lacs, even Minnetonka if you wanna chase Muskie. Toss in the rivers and there are options galore.

Just about any area you want to visit will provide decent lakes and lodging. Good luck and enjoy your stay. Spend a few bucks..............we need the tax revenue. :smirk:

The wife and I stayed at Kettle Falls late August a year ago. You boat in and have the choice of fishing Minnesota or Ontario waters of Rainy. The have a website. You'll have to check with them on the pup possibilities. My wife is not into fishing, but she did spend a few hours a day in the boat and read about 10 books.

Ask for a villa with a kitchen. There is also a very good restaurant on site. They cooked up a couple of walleye we caught for shore lunch style dinner. Yum! And you will have to check out their bar with the sloped floor.

The concessionaire (sp?) also operates another resort but I can't recall the name.

Well, the WC Get Together is at High Banks on Lake Winnie. It's a family owned resort, not too big, a dozen cabins or so, and some camper hookups. It you would be up there the week of the GTG it would be a good way to meet some of the rest of us, and disect the lake with help.

Absent a trip to Winnie - Leech Lake is probably the hottest lake in Minnesota this year. The bit has been on-fire pretty much non-stop, and will only shut down for a week or so in September during the turnover. Walker might be a little more entertaining for your wife on the days she doesn't boat with you.

Mille Lac has ton's of resort choices, and after school starts, the number of boaters you share the lake with decreases materially. Fishing has been good too.

The only large water lake in MN without a slot is Cass Lake - again, close to Winnie and the north side of Leech.

Hard to argue with LOW, unless your just wanting a change of pace?

One thing about a trip in September, when turnover arrives, fish get a bit scattered for a few days. But if you do get hit with turnover, keep in mind different sized lakes are timed a bit different. If the small, shallow lake is getting tossed, visit a large deep lake in the same area.

Looking for something similar in Wisconsin.....

1.Coming from Chicago
2. Body of water = Not huge but not real small. Unless fishing is great on huge lake then will make exception
3. Species of fish = Walleye, Bass, Pike
4. Strictly fishing trip with the boys, might do some waverunners for a little bit but all fishing for most part. Let me know!!

We head up to leech lake the last week of september every year and have great fishing. (Im also from Iowa, western side) Im meet my dad up there and we perch fish, and catch some dandies. The last few years, while perch fishing, we have done real well on the walleyes also. We stay in agency bay at bayside resort and mostly fish the walker bay area and also agency bay. We have done so well in those 2 area's that we don't venture out onto the main lake much anymore. 3 1/2 weeks and I'll be heading that way!
I hit the walleyes pretty hard over here fishing in nebraska and south dakota, sure is a nice relaxing time perch fishing, can be non-stop action and if you have kids, they will have a ball.

Brainerd area. Plenty of lakes and go cart tracks and water parks for the boys when you need to get off the water.

My wife and I have stayed at Nodak Lodge which is located on the south side of Lake Winnebigoshish. Fishing was good, pets are welcome, the family that owns it is great and the cabins, especially 5 and 6 or the park model are very nice. www.nodaklodge.com (http://www.nodaklodge.com/) good luck and have a great time.
