I have been reading ALOT of reviews about, Penn GT Levelwind Reels. 310 / 320GT

I'm wondering if anyone has been putthing these line counters through living **** and can tell me how they put up with it.

I currently run 6 x 6500LC's And i will be the first to tell you they are smooth running work horses with a few flaws but would recommend them.

I want to upgrade to a little bigger of a reel. is the Penn 310 GT LC what i need?

Not directly answering your question but I run alot of Penn level winds on my charter business.

Almost all Penn's are now made in China. I purchased 4 new 320's in '07. One broke in the 1st week, 2nd a month later, 3rd 2 months after that the 4th at the beginning of '08. In fairness I did not return to Penn (could not wait that long for replacements/repairs) but took them to my reel guy. He rebuilt them using his huge inventory of US made parts and they have worked fine since. The new Penns has replaced the brass gears with plastic gears!

The older US made reels are tougher than nails and any Penn's I now buy are the old ones... send them to my reel guy and they are like new.

I have 4 Penn 855 LC digital line counters and I love them, had them about 3 or 4 years now with zero problems and the drags are smooth as silk.

those are totally different that what is being asked about.

they stopped making those, I have 2 and they were ok. I did not like the digital counter, but the reels were fine

I also have a bunch of the old 310 GTI's and some 330's. they are great but they are real old too

Penn does not use plastic main gears or pinion in any of there reels, nor does any brand that I am aware of. Maybe some ultra cheap push button reels might have plastic gears but nothing that any of us would use.

Many companies use nylon gears to turn the level winds and that is a good thing, not a bad thing.

Aparantly you dont believe me so here is my reel guy, he has rebuilt a ton of the Chineese made Penns give Bill a call.
