Opinions: Which is the best knot to tie to your reel spool so the line will not slip with fire line.

First tie on a short piece (5 yds) of mono to the spool and then use a blood knot to attach the fireline to the mono tag. If you go direct to the spool with fireline it will spin your entire spool of line. Maybe not at first, but it will happen. The tightness of the mono to the spool will eliminate this occuring. Good Luck!

No specific not will prevent Fire Line from slipping on a reel spool, instead put about two to three rows of mono backing on the spool first, tie the two lines together, then fill the spool with Fire Line. Your Fire Line will not slip then.

tie on the fire line as you would your mono, then secure it with a small piece of tape. even if the lossens up it will not slip.

Using the base of mono on the spool is the way to go with Fireline or Spiderwire. I would suggest going with a uni-knot to connect the mono to the super-line.

Tie the fireline directly to the spool and put a dab of clear nail polish on it, end of story,,

Your reel will work most efficiently when the spool is full of line. I cant afford to load the entire spool with fireline so I put on mono backing and leave about an 1/8 to 1/4 inch. Then I tie a Uni knot splicing the mono and fireline filling the remainder of the reel with fireline.

My partner couldn't figure out why I was reeling in fish twice as fast as he was. We both had the same reel and were both using fireline. The difference was that I used backing and had a full spool while his spool did not have backing and was only half full.

I agree with "fishsniffer". I use the label tape that comes with the fireline to secure it to the spool. Never had it slip.

I put one or two wraps of good, soft, electrical tape on the spool before tying the fireline to it. The cheap electrical tape doesn't work well for this, it isn't soft enough. I've never had it slip this way. It grips better than the sticker off the line spool, and is less permanent than glue. It's also easier than tying backing on. I've been using that method since the very beginning with braided lines, and has always worked great for me.

I agree with BigC on using mono for a backer.Ever notice how fast a full spool gets frayed from trolling? After a month or so I've always stripped the line off my reels and rewind it back on end for end---presto'new line. Then if your spool wasn't quite full enough you can add mono backer.I also do this with my mono spools. You'll be surprised how much less friction even mono line has especially longlining floating Bombers in shallow water.

Have heard that a wrap or two of electrical tape will keep line from slipping. I have done it for a few years and have not had any slippage. But can't say for sure that its the tape.

Here's another case when rubber bands can be used. Regardless of the line, wrap a small rubber band around the spinning reel spool -- 3 or 4 times. It not only prevents slippage, it keeps the line from compressing too tightly against the spool, which can (believe it or not) force it out of round.
