Is this rod as nice as I think it is, or am I imagining things?
I had a 6'6 lightning rod in one hand and a loomis imx in the other...
closed my eyes... I have to tell you they both felt sweet. Can a 50 dollar rod be this good?

Thoughts?

Dave, I too love the Lightning Rod. I have a Gary Roach model and it's so light compared to most of my other rods. Is it as good as my St.Croix ? I don't think so but you can get three Berkely's for the price of one St. Croix. Would I buy another?? You bet.

Have had my "Roach Rod" for a full year now and like it as well as my partners St. Croix. Not very cultured I guess. LOL

My brother and I have owned several Lightning Rods over the years and have loved them all. Although I hesitate to say its "better" than anything else, I can say that we have a St. Croix Avid in the boat that is the same length weight etc. as on of the Lightning rods and we don't fight over the St. Croix.

I have the same one your talking about and love it for jigging. I also use it for perch fishing and some river fishing in ohio. I use a lite spin cast reel made for fireline on it. It's a deadly combo for perch fishing. Very sensitive!
Good Luck!!

I have a G Loomis and the Lightening Rod and for the price the Berkley is a fair deal but I do prefer my GL. But as stated if you can by 3 or 1 it becomes a matter of choice.

Dave, I bought a Lightening Rod Classic with the cork handle last year. It is so light and quick handling that it is now my favorite rod. Is it better than a high end stick? Probably not, but you're not paying for one either. Over the years I have learned one very important thing with rods. If it fits my intended use and I like the way it feels, I don't care what the name on the rod says. My previous favorite rod was a $18.00 Shimano Med. 7 ft.'er. It did (and still does) everything I wanted it to do. When live bait rigging, these are the ones I pull out.

yes, been fishing with lightning rods since they started, still have an original with a full cork handle. Best rod for the money, no question. Just like jeans, levi's or tommy H--Levi's baby.
