: Boat trailer question.

My garage opening is only 94.75" (24' deep) and I am looking to purchase a boat that will probably be 90"-92" wide. I know it would be tight, but I would love to keep my boat in my garage. (I would have to get a folding tongue) The problem I am finding is that most trailers are quite a bit wider than the boat with Tracker so far having the only trailer I've seen (on their V-16) that is not wider than the boat. I was also told that a wider trailer means that you do not have to back up as far when launching. I'm really interested in the Lund 1675 or 1725 Explorer but is it realistic to expect to find a trailer that is no wider than the boat?

I have a Mr Piks 1675 the trailer is 102" wide and thats probably what the boats you are looking at will have under them.

There are 2 ways to go, a wider trailer, in which the boat sits between the fender, which will allow the hull to sit lower, and thus be easier to launch, or a narrower trailer, in which the hull sits above the fenders. If you look at some of the nearly 100" wide hulls out there, they have to sit above the fenders, since 102" is the typical legal limit for trailer/towing width. If you do go the narrow trailer direction, you may want to consider a roller trailer, to help when you find yourself at a shallow ramp. But yes, if you want a narrower trailer, they are available.

Any chance of widening the opening on your garage? By your measurements, you have an 8' wide door (minus trim).

You may be able to widen the opening, by a 9' or 10' door and sell your 8' door to the door installer. Sometimes they will do this, sometimes not.

Just an idea - hate to see your boat buying decision driven by a garage constraint.

By any chance, have you looked at the Lund 1750 Outfitter? While I love my Explorer, I'd take a hard look at this rig. Narrower, lighter, probably less expensive.

My 16.5' Alumacraft Yukon sits on an EZ Loader 2000 lb capacity roller trailer that is 80" wide overall. They also have two 90" wide trailers, 2100 and 2300 lb capacity. All three will accomodate at least a 17' boat. Might one of those work for you?

Nice boat but I'm set on the options that you can only get on the Explorer and Pro Guide. (3 pedestal bases up front)

That should work.

B4 I picked up my new boat I hired a guy to make my door 10ft wide, cost me $200. Then got new door and had that installed- $400. Not scuffing brand new trailer- Priceless!! Its so nice having all that room especially at night. Gonna spend a load on a boat what's a few hundo more-if yours can be widened. Good luck with the search!

It would be tough to widen the door since I have brick on the outside. Unless I get a narrow trailer I'll have to keep it outside.
