View Full Version : Heaviest average ?
Can anyone tell me what the heaviest average was in any major tourney. What I want to know is what was the average weight of the fish that cashed the last check. So what kind of average did you need to get in the money. Something like that?

Heaviest average fish for a PWT tournament is 7.26lbs. Lake Erie 1993.

That is average for all fish. The winner had 121.80lbs total for the tournament. Don't know what the limit was.

Take a look at the in-fisherman web site or the professional walleye trail web site; sometimes there are records posted there. I do not see them right now but as we get into the tournament season they may post them again. Keep watching the following sites:

The record that comes to mind is a limit (6 fish i believe) caught by Norb Wollock back a couple years ago weighing 48.48 pounds. Let's see now if my arithmatic is correct that works out to exactly 8.08 pounds per fish. Funny, I was fortunate to fish the PWT Championship with Norb that year as an observer here in Bismarck. Great guy!
There are other records too. Some established with 7 or eight or even 5 fish limits depending where and when those tournaments were held but do not think PWT takes more than 6 fish limits any longer.

I fished Au Gres MWT Tourney last July if I remember correctly one team brought in 45lb. 5 fish limit and the winning team had a two day total of almost 80lbs. My 5lb avg. was no where near the money. Saginaw Bay in June and July can be simply amazing around the charity islands.

I believe that Norbs catch was only a 5 fish limit. That would make it an impressive 9.7 lbs average. Sundance had the biggest 1 day total weight I have ever heard of, He caught 51.5 lbs for 5 fish back about 3 years ago. That also was on lake erie in early april. How many PWT records are going to fall this year? As to the original question, you would have to get all the results from tournaments past and calculate the results yourself.

I go 246 lbs and my buddy goes 300+ lbs. He has done a good number on a few of my seats over the years. Thats about a 275 lb average. I imagine that would put us in the money!
On Erie a daily 5 Walleye catch of 50 plus pounds is not uncommon. If their was a tourney held off Den's Vermilion area in late October or November OMG!

Ohio,
There have been tourneys over there at that time of year and 50 hasn't been met yet that I know of. 50# days aren't unusual at Huron/Vermilionin the fall, but I wouldn't call them commonplace either, at least with a 2 person crew. As far as I know Sundance and his partner are the only one's who have topped 50 in one day of fishin during a tournament.
I think Den and Matt may have been in the 65# range one night last December.
