I have a 2005 9.9EL Merc that I intend to use for a kicker. I'm looking to purchase a control, cables etc. and rig it myself. I've contacted a local Merc dealer about control compatibility, but honestly, they were less than helpful (I didn't buy the motor from them) . Does anyone know of any websites that list control/cable/harness and motor compatability ? I don't suppose just any control can be used and I know the cables and harness have to match the motor. So how does one find out this information without the "dealer" books ? I looked at Merc's website to no avail - just their latest products. Any insight you have into this is greatly appreciated.

You'll probably end up with ControllKing or Trollmaster. Just google them or go with the "www" prefix and the ".com" suffix . Installation is pretty easy.

you can only control the throttle with those, not shift, or start the engine

If you are looking for a complete remote throttle did you try the merc parts site? Have your serial number handy

I have a TrollMaster ready to go on once I get it rigged. I'm actually looking for info on the initial rigging... with Merc control box.

I was on a Merc. parts website (I don't think the one Perchjerker gave) to no avail. All it gave was part numbers, prices, etc. - no compatibility. I'll try mercpartsexpress and see what I can find.

Update: Mercpartsexpress didn't work out for me. It seems that if they don't have your serial number in their database, then you can't view anything but oils etc. (listed on left side of page). I can't understand why the serial number doesn't come up, the local dealer pulled it up right away - even knew exactly what date I bought it . BTW, it's a 2005... not exactly "old". Anyone else with a knowledge of controls ?

I was always able to get good info. on Merc. parts web site a couple years ago, but since they updated it, or whatever, I haven't had much luck either. They don't seem to recognize the serial numbers on either of my motors?? Just my .02
