View Full Version : Shimano Sahara 2000 problem

I'm having problems getting the bail to click over after making a cast. Been looking at it for quite awhile and can't figure out what the problem is. This reel is not even a year old! It's probably something very simple. Getting sick of flipping the bail over manually! Any ideas?

My son bought the same reel last year and has had the same problems. We took it back to the place we bought it and they claimed the bail was bent by us. No way. Replaced bail same story. I think the first time it causes trouble this year it gets sent back to Shimano with a letter.

The bail spring may be broken.Where the bail meet's the spool,a small cover may be there. Remove it,and if it's broke,it'll fall out.It may have just come out of the socket it sit's in too.I really like the Shimano line nice stuff. Hope this help's.

Try removing the spool and make sure the hexnut on the shaft is tight. I've had this problem with other spinning reels and this may correct it.

I bought a 2000 and it had either a defective bail or it was poorly designed. I sent the bail back to them and they sent me a new "re-designed bail". Works OK now but I am not impressed with this reel.

send it back to shimano or take it to your local tackle store. Shimano will probably just send you a new reel.
Yep, I have the same problem. It will be interesting (after reading the posts) whether shimano will correct the problem. I have had the reel two years. Sometimes it flips back but most of the time it gets hung up part of the way back on the flip.

I work part time at Gander Mountain in the fishing dept,and I get alot of Saharas back because of the same thing. Its not just your 2000,it all sizes. We give the option,another one or your money back. Just started happening this spring.
I had problems with the Sahara,did not like it ,sent it back and went with the Sedona By Shimano,I love this reel,works great!Send it back and get the Sedona.
Oh,this is the Sedona 1000 front drag.Brought in a 7 lb 8 oz wally and many others just about as nice with this reel.

I have the same problem. Do you have an address or other information on how to send it back. I've had mine two years, I doubt whether I could find a receipt. Jim
