I don’t have any down riggers on my boat and have recently taken a liking to salmon fishing. I have been trying to do this on fort peck in Montana. I purchased some luhr Jensen Deep six divers. #2's the package says they are good for 200 feet but I cannot seem to figure out what depth I am running them at.

I have managed to catch a few fish but cannot get a pattern going. So the fish I am catching are just roaming fish or fish that are not around the rest of the fish. Imp trying to reach the 90-130 feet in depth. I did this for 2 straight days and managed to catch 5 fish but others around were catching 20-30 fish a day. Ive pulled these with various amounts of line out. From 110 feet to 350 feet. Behind the divers I am running the same flasher/squid setups as the other boats.

So my question is does anyone know any other sort of diver or other ways to fish this deep. I am trolling from 1.5-3mph... I cannot seem to find a dive chart or curve for the deep six divers I have.

I am open to any and all suggestions...

Thank you in advance

Gary

I would ask those who are doing well how are they doing it

that would shorten your learning curve and elimate a lot of guesswork

Wire running Dipsy Divers will get super deep. I run them on lake O for Salmon fishing. On a 2 setting wire out 220' puts you close to 75' to 85' down you can go further than that, alot of guys run 250-300 out. Even deeper if you use the mag ring to get down to 100 ft deep.

I taken a huge liken to salmon fishing as well, I would get some riggers if I were you..eventually, you can find a used set of cannon mag 10's for 350-400 all over the place I see them often. Well worth getting electrics for deep water fishing.

everyone else out there has downriggers... they are pulling the same flasher squid combo rigs behind their down riggers that i am pulling behind my divers.

i am looking for a set of down riggers but i dont want any mounting hardwear on the sides of my boat. i want a system that is completely removable.

any idea on how to mount so they are completly removable

oh ok

You can buy pedestals that are removable. But there will always be a mounting base left on the boat. You cant get away from that unless you have rails you may be able to devise a clamp for but thats doubtful

You can mount riggers on gimbal mounts if you have any flush mount rod holders on your boat, completely removeable but neet strong gunnels. Can use track mounts that can also be used for any number of things from pop holders to rod holders to step plates. Check out berts or pursuit for any and all mounting solutions you can imagine.

You will have a 4 inch track mounted in the back corner of your boat? want pics? me and another guy have the same set up, his on a 215 mine on a 621

Your boat has cleats near the stern. Make a mounting board that attaches to those. A 2X6 should be wide enough for the downriger bases.
You end up with a plank across the rear of your "fishing area" but it's temporary. I've seen properly spaced hooked bolts used.

Cabelas has portable downriggers that will fit into your ram rod holder bracet. they are not very expensive.

I used K Gone's mounting idea on my boat. I'm implementing many of his trolling methods on our Missouri River impoundments as well with success! Bert's custom setup which can be removed from the tracks. I've found that I rarely remove them as they are relatively out of the way.

Thanks again for the ideas K Gone!

No problem man. Just got the tracking confirmation today my new 6 inch Cannon Swivels are waiting on my door step I had the 4 inch Bert's that didn't have a swivel which were good mounts but I like having a mount that swiveled so I decided to get the new Cannon's. I'm going to Ontario this weekend for a couple more days of King fishing. I'll take some pics of the new set up, I think I'm going to love it.

I borrowed a set of 4 inch Pursuit's (now traxtech) although they where nice the swivel was a plunger located on the bottom of the base and once I swiveled it I often lost track of it, on the Cannon's it's a nice plunger that's on the pedestal which I won't have to look for and IMO a superior design.

I have vector riggers and with a 15 pound ball hanging in the water and trolling at 2.5-3.5 mph the vector swivel bases just don't work that great with all the force against them. I think this new set up is going to be awesome looking forward to running it.

To Kid Walleye- If you plan on mounting riggers. Do it the right way, you need a SOLID mounts for walleye or salmon fishing. You need big heavy balls to get deep without all the blow back, eventually you will want to run 12 or 15 pound sharks, torpedo's, rattlers or at least a 12 or 15 pound round ball, less blow back so you can mark your rigger balls on your fishfinder and if you add a speed and temp the probe will add to the blow back you will have also requiring a heavier ball.

This type of set up won't work with no cruddy weak ram or rail mount adapter mamsy pamsy rigger mounting setup. If your dragging a 6 pound ball at 1.5 I guess you could get away with that stuff but not for great lakes style presentations go quality mounting with backing on plates with good stuff or don't bother. Your just asking for trouble you don't need. Plus it would be an insult to your 215 LOL

That almost exactly how I rigged my boat 19 seasons ago- a "temporary" 2x6 plank attached to the rear cleats with U-bolts- a little carpeting to dress it up, additional cleats, rod holders and downrigger bases mounted on it. The plank lies right above the splash well wall. Seems to be working. Make sure the cleats are securely mounted before you do this.
