I'm looking to buy a mew Marine Radio. I'm leaning towards ther RAtheon Ray 45 because there is supposedly a flush mount kit for that. My concern is that according to the Cabelas Catalogue, the Ray 45 doesn't have a channel scan feature. Is this true? What about the Ray 53, does that have Channel scan and a flush mount kit. Does anybody know of a reliable radio that has the channel scan and a flush mount kit available?

Greywolf,
according to Consumer Marine Catalog, the Ray 45 does have programmable scan. lists for 149 plus 30 for flush mount kit. The Icom M45 also has prog scan and is same price, flush kit is 22 bucks.
After reading description of ray45 in boat/US catalog, it appears that the scanning is a "tri-watch", in other words..it will scan 16, one other channel you input and a weather channel. Sounds like Icom is better deal. The ray 53 in boat/us is 200 plus 25 for flush mount. It's DSC capable although not sure if that's a big deal to you or not.
Hope this helps

I picked one up last month. Still sitting in the closet until I get my boat out next week. Then instructions say that it is scannable. Talked to the clerk down at Cabela's and was told that last years model didn't scan.

Go with the Ray 53 you will love it. It is a great radio and scans all channels. I run the long antenna as well.

Good luck with what ever you choose.

Boatnut is correct.... I have last years model, it will scan 3 channels, 16, 1 weather, and 1 other. I have the 3 or 4 foot stainless antenna, and it works OK, for me.

Check out www.iboats.com/mall/index.cgi
They have some of the best prices I found on radios. I ordered the Shakespeare on Tuesday Mar 26th and it was here at the house in Akron, OH on Thursday Mar 28.

I saw iboats marine had the Raytheon 53 for $187. Reeds Sports had the smae unit for $190 plus a free antenna and mount. I have no idea what kind of antenna they're giving away for free but may be worth a look at
