I have a 92 1/2 ton Chev with 350 and auto. Just wondering how much an engine oil cooler would help when towing during the hot months? The pickup is equiped with a tow package and has a tranny cooler. Any other ideas for addional cooling appreciated. Cant afford the diesel rig yet.

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Hey Mike I wouldnt worry too much about oil temp as I would Tranny temp. Sounds like you already have a tranny fan. Just keep good oil in the motor and youll be fine. A buddy has the exact truck as you with tranny cooler and hasnt had any problems towing. Full fresh oil is the key. How big is your boat? how far do you tow on average? And how many miles on your motor will all be a factor.

A lot of the trucks with the tow package from the factory have engine oil coolers. Check the left tank on the radiator. If there are 2 lines in it then it has an engine oil cooler.

My '87 Suburban's towing package included an engine oil cooler. Look at the fixture at the top of the oil filter. If there are a couple of tubes leading to the radiator, you have one. If you don't, either install one or use synthetic motor oil (much more heat resistant).
