Mom, me and the kids used to go to Cass Lake in July or August for Walleye. We did well, and would hook Musky, while not targeting them. This year, about 15 years later, I fished Vermillion for the first time, targeting Musky with my now grown-up Musky crazed sons. while we did OK for Musky, we also had a really good week of walleye fishing. After years of fishing Crow Lake, Ontario (no walleyes), it was good to be on Musky water that offered a quality chance at both.

After the combined sucess of Vermillion this year, mom's now talking about re-joining the trip next year, which would be great. That gets me to my question. To those of you that have fished them, which lake do you think would provide the opportunity for the best Mid-summer combination Walleye / Musky trip...Cass, Winnie, Leech, or Vermillion?

Your feedback is most appreciated!!

I cannot speak for Cass or Winnie, but Leech and Vermillion would be tough to beat. IMO Vermillion to be a prettier lake with lots of places to get out of the wind if needed and probably more places to fish for Musky but right now Leech has bigger fish but probably gets pressured more. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

Vermillion: Gorgeous, most scenic.
Winnie: Not as many muskies, but not as pressured as the other lakes. Walleye and perch fishing can be awesome at times.
Cass: Good bet for a pleasant week.
Leech: Walleyes have rebounded from down years. Most and biggest muskies, but also most pressured of the group.
Any of the above would be a good choice.

Thanks for the feedback! Sounds like it will come down to which lodge makes the best bloody mary!

Might give some thought to weather too, especially wind, Winnie and Leech can get pretty choppy, Cass not so much and the island holds good fishing and wind protection, never been to Vermilion, but I'm thinking there's lots of place to go hide in high winds there too.

Cass used to be my favorite when I was heavy into musky fishing and always managed to pick a walleye up too.
