View Full Version : Feel Stupid! Lowrance Map Create
Hi guys and gals, Just bought a new Lowrance LCX 15MT, with the #5 Map Create. I can't find where to plug in. I have a HP Pavilion 8370 tower. I have plugged this thing into every possible terminal that it will fit and I get nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I wish you all a very Happy Easter. Bo #582

Not as stupid as I felt I'll bet. I beleive that unless you actually have information on the MMC card it will act as if the system is somewhat non-operational.
Try going to the world map on the mapcreate program and using the help section to do some basic operations to start.
I would first start with a 20 mile zoom section of a water body you are familiar with.
Go to the "create waypoint " section of the help program and learn how to create and remove waypoints on the map until you feel good about it.
Now go to the " transfer data" section of help and load the info onto your MMC card.
You may run into a few snags along the way but you will get it eventually.Once you do this it will build some confidence and you will be on your way.
Keep in mind you are taking this advice from the most impatient man on the planet. If I can patiently persist through this anyone can.
Good luck and don't give up.

YES FOR SURE,LOWRANCE IS VERY VAGUE ABOUT THE OPERATIONS HERE IN. THE SONAR AND GPS ARE VERY USER FRIENDLY,BUT MAKING MAPS AND ACCESSING THE MAPCREATE ARE VERY TIME CONSUMING TO SAY THE LEAST! THERE ARE A MYRIAD OF QUESTIONS TO ASK AND IT COULD TAKE A LONG TIME TO FIGURE OUT YOUR PARTICULAR SITUATION. I RARELY USE MY MAPCREATE 5,I USUALLY GET LAKE MAPS FROM NAVIONIC,WITH THE DEPTH CONTOURS ON THEM. WHAT I GOT FROM MAPCREATE SEEMED SOMEWHAT USELESS,I COULD BE WRONG BUT IT SEEMED LIKE IT JUST GIVES YOU A BACKGROUND FOR YOUR WAYPOINTS TO BE PLOTTED AGAINST,REALLY INCONSEQUENTIAL! GOOD LUCK FIGURING IT OUT,AND IF YOU DONT,DONT BEAT YOURSELF UP OVER IT. YOU WILL HOWEVER NEED TO FIGURE OUT WHERE TO PLUG IN THE INTERFACE CABLE BECAUSE YOU WILL NEED IT TO GET YOUR SOFTWARE UPGRADES!

I had some problems installing Map Create on my 1600GPS last year. I can't be totally specific, since that was the only time I did the process, but there is an electical adaptor (one outlet plug and two jacks if I remember correctly) included with the unit that you have to plug into the wall, the unit and your computer). Lowrance doesn't mention it in the instructions. Possibly the adaptor plug will fit into the HP? Sorry I can't be more specific, but it was a long time ago. Good luck.

I do not have the product but from what I have read about the new Wass unit is that the new unit will be USB and that the older unit use the paralell port,ie. (your printer port)

Your MMC reader will plug into the same port as your Keyboard then plug your keyboard into the newly installed lowrance MMC reader cord.

Bo, I could probably help you if you were sitting here next to me but I don't quite understand everything that I know about this stuff. I do know that I recieved a great deal of help by calling Lowrance service dept last year. You could try them:

These two people were very good help.
