I'm in downtown Minneapolis on a business trip, on the U campus, and brought my traveling telescopic rod and some jigs and plastics. Where can I go to catch a walleye or maybe a bass or just some panfish? I know the Miss River is just a couple blocks away. Is there a park or fishing dock anywhere nearby? Let me know quick! I do have a car.

Mill Ruins Park, its on the downtown Minneapolis side of the river, plenty of room for fishing for variety of species. Its in between the upper & lower sets of locks at St Anthony Falls.

I ended up walking right down to the river from campus. Found a group of boulders on the east side between the rowers' boat house and the Washington St. bridge. Caught 4 smallies, biggest went about 2 lbs.

Sounds like you did pretty well.

Ya gotta remember that most of us leave the metro area when we fish.

Many of the lakes in the cities have boat/motor restrictions, etc. so we don't fish them. I live 1/2 south of the Mississippi and wouldn't even put my boat in up in this area. For much of the year, I could almost walk across the river. The river is designated a "world class" smallie fishery and has pretty tight restrictions. Lots of canoes and drift boats. One neighbor ran a airboat with a Chevy 350 V8 on the river for a while. Could hear him for miles.
The good Mississippi walleye fishing is way downstream from me.
