If the weather is good next weekend Oct 3rd I would like to take my son (13) and the neighbor and his son (13) to Lake Erie. Can't decide what area to try and what species (Perch or Walleye)? I have heard a lot of good things about the Vermillion/Huron area this time of year. However, I am not familar with this area. Any recommendations/direction would be appreciated!

Huron/Vermilion would probably be best bet. No reason you couldn't target perch and then go after eyes. Fishing will depend on the blow coming sunday and monday. If the lake doesn't get too torn up could be great fishing. There is a good sized tournament saturday out of huron so if you need a room might want to call soon.

Thanks Papascott, I have heard about Rivers Edge lodge? Would most of the anglers for the tournament be staying there?

Just returned today from fishing that area. We went out of huron with Fishinagain charter, capt randy lilly. He worked with our group great cause we wnated to smallmouth fish in the morning fora bit and then troll for walleyes after that. We caught about a dozen and a half smallies with the biggest 19 in. and then proceeded to limit out on eyes by 3:30pm. Here's the kicker, when we took the fish to the cleaning house they weighed just over 100#'s!!! (24 fish) they were great sized fish. Any further info feel free to pm me.

You could also see if the Plantation Motel has any rooms. it's between Huron and Vermilion and you can clean fish there. they sorta cater to fisherman. what size boat? keep a good eye on the weather. Like Papascott said, there is a tournament out of huron on saturday so ramp there might be crowded. Vermilion might be better to launch.

Boatnut, thanks for the info..! My boat is a Triton 189 175 HPDI with 8hp yammie kicker. I have to watch the weather closely with this type of boat on Erie..! Not sure yet what the weather is supposed to look like on Saturday & Sunday? What is the name of the launch at Vermilion?

I second the Plantation. I have stayed there twice and intend to be there halloween weekend again! Tod (owner) is great to fisherman. You can put in on the vermilion river, which is very easy to find (right on hwy 6?) or, you could drive 5 minutes and put in huron or cranberry creek. All the locals there are very helpfull. Be ready to pull reefrunners around 1.5 or so and the night bite may have already kicked off as well so ripsticks and huskys will be the ticket there. Try OGF website for the most info on erie.
