1). ACCIDENTALLY, spray your entire lawn with roundup instead of dandelion killer. 2) Feign surprise and shock when lawn dies and yard turns to dirt. (important: go sit in yard on plastic chair, hang your head and pretend to sob at least twice while neighbors watch) 3) Complain to wife and neighbors about the cost of replacing entire yard. 4) DO NOTHING. 5) Go fishing while neighbors mow their yards.

My dad's steps to easy lawn care was two push mowers, four boys, five acres, and we could go fishing when it was cut. Now we are all grown it is big riding tractor.

GR8WTHUNTER,
Your Dad and mine must be related, only we had two boys, two push mowers and 5 acres. Used to take almost all day. Once the two of us moved out, he sold 3 acres and bought himself a big John Deere riding tractor. I like the roundup idea, I just might try that this summer.
Take care and good fishing,

Let it go to pasture. You might be the only resident in your community with partridge and pheasants in his yard. Maybe the easter bunny will take up residents there too.

I set my mower on the highest setting and usually mow every other week in the spring/early summer and once a month when it gets dry. I also have spread johnny jump-ups and black eyed susans around the yard. Naturalists think that I do it because of the ecology thing, longer grass holds water better, slowing runoff and all that stuff. Have I got them fooled.
Longer grass does attract alot more birds, butterflies and other cool things. Biggest plus is fishing of course.
The Mn DNR has a brochure called, "Landscaping for Wildlife" they ought to call it "Landscaping for fishing" cause there is very little mowing involved.

Two boys, two worn out "Eclipse" push mowers, two acres. Chickens, hogs, cows and the occasional turkey. The only fishing we saw was the local creek after high water from the river trapped channel cats and carp in the pools when the water went down.
Would not (now!) trade it for anything. Wish the old man was back.
