What do you feel is the best set up for trolling multiple lines behind your boat to avoid tangling lines, which line should be out the farthest back?

Inline planer boards (Off Shore or Church). Shallowest line out furthest, deeper lines as you come closer to the boat. Start small and work your way up as your comfort level increases. I've run up to 4 per side.

You could also use a mast system. I'm not that familiar with those. Someone else with more experience should chime in.

As above plus shorter leads farther out and longer leads closer to the boat. In effect, if viewed from the rear you have a V, likewise when viewed from above, with the boat in the middle.

I agree with the "down and out" theory when using planer boards ---- deeper lines closer to the boat, shallower lines off to the sides on the boards.

A lot of times in the fall we troll 4 flatlines out of my boat --- we fish and night and don't use planer boards. To get more spacing between the baits and avoid tangles I'll run heaver line on my two "back" rods and run thinner line on my two "front" rods. With that set-up we let out more line on the back rods and less line on the front rods to achieve spacing and still have all 4 baits running at the proper depth.
