I'm looking for suggestions on locations (not your spots) fishing in Door County next week and based on what I read I'll decide if it's worth bringing my boat.

Florida Daughter, her boyfriend, the wife and I will be staying in Sister Bay. We do plan of doing charter and dock fishing for salmon, but I am considering taking the Alumacraft 165 cs with us to check out the situation with 'eyes, smallmouth and maybe some pike. I'm not set up for running boards, etc.

No question Sturgeon Bay is very doable with my boat and skills assuming there is not some storm. I'm not so sure about Larsen's Reef. The weather would have to be perfect for me to try Larsen and very good the remainder of the close in Green Bay waters.

I know there are a couple of inland lakes but I understand from old reports fishing on them is so-so. Has that changed? What's up the Mink River this time of year?

We used to do Door every fall for a number of years but that was before we had a boat. I really don't remember seeing boats out fishing. Sadly, this trip's budget won't allow for a guide.

Thanks for your thoughts,

Nimstug

It's possible to catch walleye and pike trolling rod in hand along the breaks in the ship canal. Trophy class walleye are caught along the shorelines at night just about anywhere on the east shore of the county. Rocky drops to 10 feet of water produce fish as do some sandy points away from shore. Kangaroo Lake has some walleye in it too and the smallmouth bass fishing can be VERY good this time of year all over the bay.

The shore line arounds the egg harbor light house used to be an October destination for us for years.

#11 or #13 Floating rapala 100" back 7 to 10 FOW.
Gold/ black - silver/ blue ... change rear hook to chrome.
We always headed to deep water every hookup since you are very close to shore ( and Rocks ) in this depth of water.
After landing the fish ... just circle back and drag through the same area.

This is definately a night bite... be careful and have fun.
